About
Jan Jusino (b. 1995)
Jan Jusino is a Puerto Rican multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Houston, Texas. Since 2014, Jusino has cultivated a practice that serves as a conduit between the tactile traditions of painting and drawing and the technical frontiers of digital synthesis. Utilizing advanced rendering software and digital manipulation, he investigates the boundaries of photography and video to create works that exist at the intersection of the physical and the virtual.
Jusino’s practice is deeply rooted in a dialogue with art history, drawing formal inspiration from the structural rigor of the Bauhaus and Art Deco movements, as well as the emotive landscapes of Surrealism and Expressionism. His work explores the existential tension between organic nature and structured architecture—a duality he describes as the synthesis of "the organic fluidity of breath with the rigid geometry of structural science."
At the core of Jusino’s exploration is a pursuit of what he defines as "meaningful vividness": the extraction of intense chromatic values through the minimal shaping of context. By distilling complex environments into their most essential forms, he invites viewers into a world of quiet precision. His "imagined spaces" challenge the viewer’s perception of reality, moving fluidly along a spectrum that ranges from the starkly minimalist to the vividly surreal.
