In practice, a consideration of the three categories of hand lettering: Serif, San-serif and Script will reveal a different approach for each in terms of letter stroke. The most basic of these is San-serif because it is at its heart, non-ornamental, and because the rhythms for these forms are regular. Serif is bit more involved, since it also includes extra, serif strokes. The most involved may be Script, since its rhythms are often regular. Instructor: Michael Briere
